Location Gateway
Overview
Five of the six main UK networks have "location-enabled" networks, with the sixth expected to complete the network picture soon. Selected partners like MX Telecom can obtain live access to permission-based location information of subscribers through direct and secure connections.
We will be among the first to offer the full cross-network solution, complementing our simple yet comprehensive solution which allows third parties to location-enable their applications more quickly than through direct network connections.
How does it work?
After submitting a request to locate a certain mobile number, the mobile operators' location platforms provide a result that contains X and Y coordinate values in GPS/WGS84 format, as well as an accuracy radius. The size of the total area of the calculated cell is commonly smaller in urban areas and larger in less populated areas.
If you are hosting your own application, MX Telecom then return the location data to you via the Internet, using a simple interface of your choice (HTTP, HTTP/XML or SOAP - for full details of our APIs please see Technical Information).
It is possible to convert this into other formats such as Post Code, if required. For further details please contact us.
Why MX Telecom?
The key advantage of choosing MX Telecom as your location-enabling provider is our leading position as a supplier of voice and data connectivity to mobile and fixed line network operators. Our reputation for excellence and superior relationships will ensure that you are first to market with your applications. Our location feed requires substantially less cost, time and development effort than it would take to establish and code a direct interface with each individual operator.
MX Telecom offers:
- The most robust and reliable range of gateways available in the market
- High transmission rates
- Simple integration through a range of protocols
What applications are possible?
Potential Location applications cover almost every demographic: parents, teenagers, singles, students, online communities and businesses.
Beneficiary organisations include those which depend heavily on mobile voice and/or data communications through significant numbers of field employees, as well as those needing constant location updates of assets.
Other popular uses of Location data include 'Where's My Nearest..?' services, where users can immediately locate and contact their nearest taxi firm, pizzeria, cinema or service of their choice.
Our range of gateways make it simple to integrate existing SMS/MMS/Voice or Video services with LBS functionality, adding a whole new dimension to already successful services.
Demonstration
Test the power of our LBS using your own handset. Available on Vodafone, Orange, O2 and T-Mobile, this LBS demonstration gives a sample of the functionality we can provide.
Account setup
All new Location Based Services require prior approval by the mobile network operators. Depending upon the network operator in question, a Location Based Services account, can usually be setup within 10 working days. In the majority of cases, the application will be need to be set up in conjunction with an SMS or IVR solution.
Service support
The MX Telecom Gateway uses direct connections into the heart of Mobile Network Location Services Platforms and SMS Centres (SMSCs), providing high capacity, reliable, and fast connectivity. MX Telecom only uses its own leased line connections to various operators, and does not go through any third party providers. It is a complete solution, hosted, designed, developed and supported by MX Telecom.
